  • HMCS Halifax returns from Haiti
    A banner reading “Welcome home, Nova Scotia heroes” was part of the rousing reception that greeted HMCS Halifax as she returned to Halifax from Haiti on March 2, 2010.


  • Naval reservist survives collapse of UN building in Haiti
    It was nearing the end of the work day and Lieutenant-Commander Shekhar Gothi just wanted some fresh air and a chance to stretch his legs. Seconds later he was buried beneath mounds of rubble as the UN Headquarters building in Port-au-Prince, Haiti collapsed in the devastating earthquake January 12. He was one of the few survivors.

  • Canadian warship to begin counter-piracy operations
    HMCS Fredericton has joined Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1) to conduct counter-piracy operations in the Gulf of Aden and off the Horn of Africa. The deployment of the Halifax-based frigate is called Operation SAIPH.
