- Canada extends navy’s counter-piracy mission
The Government of Canada is extending the counter-piracy mission of HMCS Winnipeg, as part of Standing NATO Maritime Group One off the Horn of Africa, to the beginning of June.
- Canadian warship thwarts pirate attack
HMCS Winnipeg, currently deployed in a NATO led counter-piracy mission known as Operation Allied Protector, has thwarted a pirate attack of a merchant vessel in the Arabian Sea.
- HMCS Winnipeg set to join NATO fleet
This week HMCS Winnipeg will become the fifth Canadian ship since 2006 to join Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1), this time in the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. SNMG1 is a multinational, integrated maritime force consisting of vessels from the various alliance nations, training and operating together as a single team.
- CF Assist Drug Busts Valued at $272M
Canadian Forces' Operation Caribbe is seeing some early successes in 2009 after supporting drug busts in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific Ocean that stopped some $272 million worth of cocaine from reaching the streets of North America. Since 2006, CF ships and aircraft have been participating in U.S.-led multinational counter-drug operations off the southern approaches to North America.
