How long have you been in the navy?

I have been in the Navy almost two years, I joined October 22nd 2010.

What is your role in the navy?

My role in the Navy is as a Naval Communicator mostly on the bridge as the senior hand talking on the VHF radio to other ships and land station, or by flashing light (morse code).

What encouraged you to join?

I joined becaused of the travel opportunities the Navy offers.

Do you have family members in the military or reserves? If yes, who? No

Where else have you worked? How does it compare? I’ve worked at Honda Manufacturing, a machinery design company and other random jobs along the way. There is no comparison, being in the Navy is definitely unique.

Do you have a family? Tell us about them.

I have a gorgeous wife who is currently four months pregnant. My two dogs, a boxer named Cyder and a pug named Etta. Back home my mom and dad along with two brothers and one sister.

What has been the most valuable lesson learned in the navy?

Being wary of rumours and gossip has been a valuable lesson considering how around are not true.

What message do you have for people who may be interested in joining the navy?

The experience alone is worth it, not to mention all the perks and great friends you gain throughout your career.

What ships have you sailed on?

I’ve only sailed on HMCS Ottawa, which has been awesome so far and very rewarding.

What is a typical day in your role of the navy like?

I handle all the communications. It typically involves lots of time on the bridge handling the radio and training, either my own or helping others.

What is the typical reaction you get when you tell people you’re in the navy?

“OHHH”, “That’s cool”, then they proceed to ask me the most outrageous questions they can think of. They don’t really know as much about the Navy as they do about the Army.
